Grange Country Park
A Haven for Flora, Fauna and Relaxation
A PROUD recipient of the coveted
David Bellamy Gold Award, and officially opened by the celebrity naturalist
himself, our 70-acre Country Park is a wonderland of tranquil and picturesque
walks. Wildlife and attractive flora abound, a beautiful six-acre lake lies
at the heart of the park – making it an idyllic setting for a picnic.
The lake is well-stocked, as is
the mature 11/4
acre lake behind the leisure centre, and visitors can test
their
angling skills in either lake for a modest charge. The lake serves as a pleasant
setting for fishing matches held throughout the season, and there is also a
further small lake where youngsters can enjoy weekly supervised ‘Pond Dipping’
sessions. Children can also have an introduction to the fun of coarse fishing by
taking part in our junior fishing matches.
The Country Park serves as a
delightful setting for all manner of entertainment activities, from archery and
air rifle shooting to fishing and bird-watching. Those who prefer to study the
attractions of the area more closely can take part in one of the accompanied
walks along the David Bellamy Trail. Skirting the lake, the Trail takes a
circular route through the park’s enchanting landscape of woodlands and meadows,
and features along its length two hides from which enthusiasts can study the
Park’s fascinating and diverse collection of birdlife.
The
Park’s attractive Visitor Centre is an excellent point at which to pause for a
refreshing cup of tea or coffee, and it also houses a fascinating collection of
wildlife exhibits ranging from stuffed animals to a wasps’ nest. A
conference/seminar room with a/v facilities is available within the Centre by
arrangement; a facility which adds to the Park’s appeal as an ideal venue for
organised school trips and similar educational enterprises. Opening times may be
limited, information is available from reception.
We regret that no dogs are allowed
in the Country Park.
